The UAE, celebrating its 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2020, is continuing its cultural exchange with Korea in various fields such as art and sports.

According to the results of the 2019 Korea Image Survey conducted by the Korean Culture and Information Service, the UAE, who have a high affinity for Korea mainly in the cultural field, was classified as a country that has a positive image of Korea. Like most of the responders, Hallyu keywords, such as K-pop and K-drama, were the main factors for this positive image.

The UAE seems like a distant country, but there are many similarities to Korea, like their family-oriented culture. Currently the country is responding to the Korean wave and enjoys the contents produced. Thus, the works selected for this exhibition were selected to overcome cultural differences and introduce Korean culture to the UAE. Through webtoons, the roots sprout from the Korean Wave along with cultural diversity, the three-dimensional image of Korea is conveyed through the keywords 'present' and 'harmony in life’.

Through stories like Bae Min-Kis’ <Mosquito Syndrome>,Tam Iboo's <Sinsegaenyang>,  Kwangjin’s <Itaewon Class>, Kim Myung-mi’s <What’s wrong with Secretary Kim?> and Lee Dong-gun’s <Yumi’s Cells>, audiences from different religion, culture, ethnicity and history can all share the powerful energy from artistic imagination, experiencing the diverse people and society that make up Korea, as well as dynamic emotions and culture, trust and affection that encompasses a sense of homogeneity based on the universal sentiment of life.

So this will be an opportunity to view ‘hallyu’ from a wider spectrum and broaden one’s understanding.
